Welcome to our annual review of the previous year’s accomplishments and financial reporting. Last year was a year of significant progress for Minnesota’s parks and trails, marked by strategic land acquisitions and successful legislative advocacy.

Our land protection work resulted in three important projects: Land for a potential trailhead at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, land to reroute the portions of the Minnesota Valley State Trail that is eroding into the riverbank, and land on a bluff overlooking the St. Croix River at William O’Brien State Park. We are holding all three in trust as we work with the MNDNR to transfer to their ownership. They each represent the patient persistence that defines our approach — some projects require years of due diligence to ensure clear title and successful transfer. This capacity for methodical stewardship is a defining strength of P&TC.

The 2025 legislative session demanded focused advocacy amid challenging state budget constraints. We secured a notable victory: a $3 million increase in general fund appropriations for state parks and trails over the biennium. Beyond that win, we advanced critical research on alternative fee structures and funding models designed to ensure that cost never becomes a barrier to park access. Our Research Bike initiative—which collects empirical trail condition data across Minnesota—proved invaluable, providing decision-makers with concrete evidence of maintenance priorities. The resulting interactive map has become an essential advocacy tool.

As always, our work rests on the foundation of generous member support and community engagement. We deepened that connection in 2025 by launching a redesigned website that makes it easier for you to explore, learn about, and advocate for Minnesota’s parks and trails.
