About the state trail

Since 1993, Chisago County has been planning and constructing (in segments) this paved trail on a railroad corridor that was abandoned in 1948. As of today, the trail is built in two unconnected segments: a 5-mile segment between Chisago City (western end) and Center City and a 6.7-mile segment between Shafer and Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls (eastern end). See map below.

Our Land project stories

Project 1) Filling a 2-mile gap

P&TC acquired three properties spanning a 2-mile gap in the trail between Shafer and Center City. Filling this gap has been a top priority for nearly 20 years yet required persistence and patience to work with the landowners and ensure the project made sense for everyone involved. Chisago County enlisted the help of P&TC to be able to buy the land on the timeline that worked for the owners.
