Tips on Hosting Events

Four people in blue "VOLUNTEER" t-shirts smile and place their hands together in the center, forming a united group gesture. They each wear name badges and are outdoors with a clear sky in the background, exemplifying teamwork essential for successful fundraising.
Hosting an event is a great oportunity to work with Parks and Trials Council adn you should do it today.

Hosting an event in a park or trail can be an enjoyable way to engage visitors, raise awareness, and gain more supporters. The Friends Group’s role often involves assisting the park or trail staff.

Sometimes, however, Friends Groups organize events that exceed regular park events. In those instances, park management (e.g., the MNDNR) may require Friends Groups to have liability insurance.

Parks & Trails Council may be able to collaborate with your Friends Group to sponsor such an event, thereby temporarily extending our liability insurance coverage to your Friends Group.

HOW TO APPLY

Parks & Trails Council reviews applications for liability insurance based on several criteria, including the length of the event and the amount of potential liability involved in the activities described.

If the land management agency at your park or trail has requested that your Friends Group acquire this coverage, you can complete the form below.

Applications are reviewed by P&TC staff and you will be notified within about two weeks after submission. Feel free to email us at friends@parksandtrails.org to answer any questions.
