Final Language in Law

(k) Minnesota State Parks and State Trails
$2,500,000 the second year is from the trust fund to the commissioner of natural resources to acquire about 163 acres of high-priority in holdings from willing sellers within the legislatively authorized boundaries of state parks and trails in order to protect Minnesota’s natural heritage, enhance outdoor recreational opportunities, and improve the efficiency of public land management. Priorities include but are not limited to Tettegouche, Sibley, and Minneopa State Parks and the Goodhue Pioneer State Trail. A list of proposed acquisitions is required in the work plan. This appropriation is available until June 30, 2021, by which time the project must be completed and final products delivered.

Proposed Project Overview

Continue the development of this trail from Zumbrota to Red Wing, Minn.

2018 Identified Need

$1,865,000 in general bonding (not funded) and $500,000 recommended by LCCMR

Project Impact

When complete, the trail will connect Red Wing, Goodhue, Zumbrota, Mazzeppa, Bellechester and Pine Island for a distance of 47 miles.

Bonding Bill Status: Not Funded in 2018

  1. Bills (HF 2978 & SF 2502) introduced that appropriate $1,300,000 for acquisition and development of the Goodhue Pioneer State Trail from Zumbrota to Red Wing.

LCCMR Bill Status: Fully Funded

  1. A portion of the project included in the LCCMR recommendation bill that was included in bonding bill (HF4425), packaged with other projects.
