Amy received a BA in Elementary Education from the College of St. Scholastica and a MEd in Environmental Leadership and Learning from the University of Minnesota. She has worked for cooperative extension for 28 years in various positions, but has always tied her work to the environment. Beth Hayden is the current President of the Gateway-Brown’s Creek Trail Association, located in the east metro area of the Twin Cities. Beth has a long history with outdoor organizations, beginning with childhood engagements at school and in 4-H to her 19 years working at The Nature Conservancy in MN-ND-SD. She is an advocate for all people to get outdoors and connect with nature, and sees our trails and parks as a true gift to our world. (pronouns: she/her/hers)
Jay W. McLaren, Ph.D. is a scientist and Professor of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Shortly after retiring from his research position a few years ago, Jay took the Master Naturalist Volunteer course on Big Woods, Big Rivers at Whitewater State Park. He works as a volunteer with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, state and local parks, and the Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Fish Refuge. He recently became president of the board of the Friends of Whitewater. (pronouns: he/him/his)
Sara is the Lead Interpretive Naturalist at Whitewater State Park. She is also a Minnesota Master Naturalist Instructor and has trained more than 200 Master Naturalist volunteers in the southeast corner of the state. (pronouns: she/her/hers)
