NorthStar Trail Travelers’ (NSTT) first event of 2024 is a snowshoe/walk at Lake Maria State Park on February 10.
Two 3 km trails will be available to walk or snowshoe. The Anderson Hill/Kettle Kame loop has quite a few hills and goes by a couple of small lakes. The trail will be hard packed for hiking and snowshoeing. The Bjorklund Trail goes out to the boat landing on Lake Maria and has a few minor hills. Sloppy Joes and hot beverages to visitors will be available for a donation. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome, though not allowed in park buildings.
Visitor Information:
Register at the Trail Center between 10 a.m, and 2 p.m. and finish by 4 p.m. Fees range from $4-$9. The Trail Center is a heated building with a wood stove and flush toilets, perfect for whatever winter brings. Bring your own snowshoes or do the walk in winter boots. The park will also have a small selection of snowshoes for walkers to use to try out snowshoeing. The event award features a Screech Owl leather pin.
The event is weather dependent, so check the NSTT Facebook page, webpage (nstt.org) or watch for an email alert for event change. In the event of really inclement weather, our postpone date is the next Saturday, February 17, same times.
