Join our naturalist guides on two explorations, on foot or on snowshoe, of the park. The first exploration, The Business of Beavers, will invite participants to observe beavers in their natural habitat, taking a close look at current beaver activity, then exploring the species’ history and the history of Savanna Portage State Park.
The second exploration, Trees and Tracks, will teach us the best methods for identifying flora and fauna in the winter months, when showy blooms and distinctive foliage are in short supply. Participants will work with guides and tools to identify animal tracks and learn the tools, tips, and tricks for winter tree ID.
Each walk will be about half a mile long and will last somewhere between 30 to 45 minutes. In between activities, participants can warm up by the fire and enjoy hot cocoa provided by the Friends of Savanna Portage State Park.
