Visit Nerstrand Big Woods to ski, snowshoe, or walk by the light of the moon, with candle luminaries helping to guide the way. Go at your own pace along the candlelit route during this drop-in program. Warm by the fire, and enjoy cider and cookies in the visitor center. Limited snowshoes will be available to rent for $6 per pair on a first come-first served basis.
The candlelight event is free, but a vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks ($7 for a one-day permit or $35 for a year-round permit). Vehicle permits may be purchased at visitor center.
In case of extreme weather, this event may need to be canceled or changed.
Volunteer Needs
Volunteers are needed to help set out luminaries, light and re-light candles, tend the bonfire, pass out refreshments, traffic control, and event clean-up. To volunteer please contact park specialist Emily Greger at emily.greger@state.mn.us or 507-384-6141.
