Join Great River Greening for a unique, hands-on volunteer event as Frontenac State Park restores and develops a new addition that will expand this gem of a state park. Volunteers will hike 1⁄2 mile into this new park land to work on removing invasive shrubs (predominantly European buckthorn and prickly ash) and seeding the south facing slopes with native prairie seed. Their work will support Frontenac State Park’s ongoing ecological restoration effort toestablish healthy bluff prairies areas with stunning views, new picnic areas, and new backpack campsites.

It’s not often that a historic state park gets to expand its footprint to open new areas and experiences for visitors. Volunteers will be a part of this historic moment, blazing new trails that others will enjoy for years to come.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary: Great River Greening we will provide all tools and training required to support the restoration event while Frontenac State Park staff will guide and support the group through the newly acquired park land. Learn more or register to join by visiting www.greatrivergreening.org/events.
