The report counts users along the Cannon Valley Trail, as well as connecting trails. Counts were conducted using automated trail counters — simple, dependable devices that count bicyclists and pedestrians as they pass by — at a total of 18 locations.
Our Key Findings:
- Trail users traveled over 1 million miles on the Cannon Valley trail system in 2018
- Bicycling is the primary trail activity, but pedestrians make up the majority of users near downtown areas and campgrounds
- Trail use peaks in July, on weekends, and during the late morning and early afternoon
- Daily traffic patterns at different locations are highly correlated with each other across the trail system
