Nine volunteer-led friends groups will implement habitat restoration projects at Minnesota parks and trails this year with funds issued by Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota (P&TC). The projects include planting and protecting trees, removing invasive species, and collecting native plant seeds. The projects will include volunteer opportunities for community members at events (with COVID safety plans) throughout the year.
Each year, P&TC administers a grant program for friends groups. This year, $7,500 was available to support habitat restoration projects. These projects not only provide natural resource benefits, but they also engage community members and volunteers and activate friends groups around a common goal.
P&TC worked with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to ensure project proposals for DNR sites aligned with natural resource goals and internal processes. Thanks to them for their insight and expertise!
